2003 6A Playoff Central Throughout the playoffs this page will be updated with the most recent information and playoff out looks. Follow scores and rankings at Playoff Central & The Big 30. All 2003 6A Qualifiers listed below Brackets & Scores Last Years Champ; Chicago (Mt. (Carmel),Chicago (St. Rita)&New Lenox (Providence) Favorites to win the title; Chicago (St. Rita)- It's really hard to walk out of theChicago Catholic (Blue)conference unscarred. It's kind of like the Big 10 of high school conferences. And that's exactly what happened to the Mustangs. They were looking at finishing their season meeting Brother Rice both 8-0, but they bumped into Providence on the way the week before and fell by 5 points, dashing their hopes of an undefeated season. They do however still have a hope to win a 6A title and that hope is backed up by a strong defense & the running of junior Wade Weyer. New Lenox (Providence)- The 5A champs move up a class. While they may not be defending the
same title you still have to give the Celtics credit. With 24 playoff
appearances, 13 consecutive a 57-15 record in the post season and a
8-2 record in the finals, coach Matt Senffner's team is no slouch at
7-2.
Oak Forest - The Bengals are this seasons shot in the dark. Nobody seen it coming basically, but at 9-0 you have to give them their dues & that which is due is a spot on the Title Threats list. With a killer defense who didn't bolster it's numbers by just shutting out the non playoff teams & playing a close game with a winning squad, the Bengals have yet to allow more than 13 points in a game. Add to that several scores in 40's & 50's and you'll see why they're out scoring teams by 30 points a game. Hopefully your coaches weren't to busy scouting the usual suspects this year. Freeport (H.S.)
- The Pretzels finished undefeated & claimed
the Northern Illinois (NIC-9)
title for the second year in a row. The who have always been a big defensive
team, bring back the same intensity as last year, in the two games where
they allowed more than 7 points they were up by more than 2 TDs and
14 & 12 points is still respectable. Of course so is the 6 points
allowed average they has as a team. Lowest in 6A.
Chicago (Mt. Carmel)- As a coach you're happy to play any team in the playoffs that's 5-4, but you can bet your bottom dollar that there would be a slew of coaches who might opt for a trade if they were in Glen Ellyn (Glenbard South) 's shoes. While the Caravan having an off season, you know that coach Frank Lenti & the rest of the staff over there on S. Dante Av will have the group of mostly juniors ready for the playoffs. Although while MC may make it out of the first round, a possible second round games againstChicago (St. Rita)could stop them from repeating as 6A Champs. The Caravan are in luck though as they fall on the lesser of the two brackets. Oak Lawn (Richards)
- Many fans of the Bulldogs are scratching their heads this season
as the group of highly touted junior & sophomores they've had for
the last two seasons were suppose to take over & speed down that
road to Champaign. Something happened that was out of coach Gary Korhonen
control, there were a bunch of other good teams ion the schedule. Still
with players like RB Dion Foster & QB Sean Lewis, this team can
still make some noise towards a title shot.
