Week #5Chicago (St. Rita)(5-0 1-0)
Mustangs Run WildWilmette (Sach Stadium) - While most defenses wouldn't be happy with holding the other team's leading rusher to 122 yards, one could say it would be the only positive note for Loyola, as they managed to limit Wade Weyer to as many yards during their 42-17 homecoming loss saturday. The Ramblers, who had been ranked 18th in the state by IHSFW.com, were looking to get on track to win theChicago Catholic (Blue)Conference title, but fell short in their upset bid of #5 St. Rita. Loyola did manage to do something other school have been trying to and that's slow down St. Rita's running back Wade Weyer. Weyer who's rack up almost as many yards in 4 games as most runners will in a season was held to 122 yards on 22 carries & didn't have one of his signature break away runs of 20 or more yards. Weyer did however cut loose on a 74 yard reception to score his third TD of the day as Rita pull away for good after briefly being down after the half. Things started off looking about the same as they ended Saturday afternoon. With St. Rita scoring twice & blanking the Ramblers in the 1st & 4th quarters. St. Rita's first drive had them marching 62 yards in 8 plays over the opening 4 minutes of the game. Ending with a 3 yard TD run on a QB keeper by Michael Kafka (QB 6'3" 195 sr.) with 8:07 left in the first. Loyola's first drive wouldn't go as well, as the Mustangs stripped the ball on a run 2 minutes into their drive, giving the Mustangs possession at the Loyola 40 yard line. Weyers first TD would come on a 2 yard run on their next possession, putting Rita up 14-0 with 2:56 left to play in the 1st quarter. Loyola would come storming back as they drove down field to start the second quarter and capped off the drive with a 7 yards TD run by Conner Detjen (RB 5'8 165 jr.). Loyola's defense would come up big in the quarter, but none as big as stopping Rita deep in Loyola territory on 4th & 1 with 3:50 left in the half. Loyola took that momentum & drove all the way down field, going for it on 4th & 2 and getting a first down. The Mustangs would hold them to another 4th down forcing Loyola to kick the field goal though, with 31 seconds left. After the half, Loyola once again came charging out. And after recovering a Weyer fumble, they would score 9 seconds later on a spectacular Joseph Suhey touchdown reception for 30 yards, putting the Ramblers up 17-14 with 8:52 left in the third. But, as quickly as the Rambler sideline & bleachers had began to celebrate the Mustangs would come marching back to score 28 unanswered points Taking all the wind out of the sails of a Rambler upset bid. Loyola's QB Liam Stanton (6'3 180 sr.) was 19 of 34 for 234 yards & a TD. Joseph Suhey (WR 6'2 185 so.) was his main target for the day. Catching 7 passes for 124 & a TD. For St. Rita, Michael Lally (RB 6' 210 jr.) contributed with two of his own TDs on a 7 yard run & 16 yard pass, as he racked up 56 yards on 7 carries. Quarterback Michael Kafka also scored on a 3 yard run as he went 7 of 11 for 134 yards & 2 TDs passing, one to Weyer & one to Lally. by Vincent Johnson Help keep your school's fans up to date.
