Week #8 vs.Breese (Mater Dei)(4-4)
10/12/2001

Wide reciever Ryan Sheets (2) gives stiff arm to Mater Dei stand out DB Tyler Korte on a short yardage TD by Dusty Provost (20).

Provost 4 TD's Help In Saints Victory

Normal (Handcock Stadium) - Dusty Provost got himself and the ball over the goal line anyway he could on four different occasions, as Central Catholic played host to down state Mater Dei Catholic in a 38-20 romp.

The Saints came out gunning Friday night in Normal, as senior quarter back Andy Newbold dashed off for 42 yards on the Saints first possession to take 6-0 lead, just a minute and a half into the game. Provost would add the second score just three minutes later in the game on a 40 yard run, as the Saints would take a lead they would never look back from.

The Saints running game would look superb, as they would get key blocking from Tim Longfellow & Eric Johnson.

Mater Dei would get on the board in the second, as a pass interference call on fourth down would place them inside the ten. A face mask penalty would put them at the 3 next, before junior Brent Gerstner would dive through the middle for a TD.

Things were looking dim for the Knights of Mater Dei as their defense allowed two long TDs in the first and an 8 yard run plus a 58 yard reception by Provost from Andy Newbold, in the second. To put the Knights down 24-6 at half.

But a strong second half of play, lead on defense by junior standout lineman Brad Schomaker and junior QB Kyle Everserd on offense, the knights managed to play even ball with Central for the second half. Highlighted by a spectacular run after reception by Mater Dei wide receiver Kyle O'Brien. O'Brien caught a 10 yard out pass and shook three Saints before racing another 62 yards for a TD.

Tyler Korte would also have a reception for a TD for Mater Dei. Richie Long was the remaining Saints scorer for the night, off an Andy Newbold pass.
