Hope Glides As Clock Runs

Chicago (Stagg Field) - The Hope Eagles came out swinging in the early game at Stagg Field Saturday morning as they found the endzone in the air and on the ground to get a running clock on hosts DuSable High in a 46-6 victory which was their first of the season.

Hope scored three times in the opening quarter to take the only lead they's ever need. Hope's running back #20 (2 rushing TDs on the day) would put the first score on the board with just over 2 minutes after the opening kick off.

Quarterback Chris White would find Cory Mukes open for his first of 2 touchdown strikes. The other coming in the 2nd quarter on a 9 yarder to Frank Dickerson. White could have had a third touchdown, but a the 68 yarder was called back, as Hope had to deal with one of their 15 penalties on the day.

Chris Smith contributed twice to the score with touchdowns of 7 & 2 yards. His final TD coming just at the start of the 4th quarter, set the slaughter rule into effect and kept the clock running for the remainder of the game.

While the Eagles didn't get the shut out the Panther only score of the game came on a breakaway run by #35 for 42 yards. The Eagles' Keith Jackson had a big hand in helping stop the Panthers forward progress as he had 2 interceptions on the day.
