Zach Mordini converts the go ahead 2 point conversion on a pass from Adam Jelinek to put the Bulldogs up 30-28 in the 1A State Final game.

Bulldogs 3rd Title a Thriller

Champaign (Memorial Stadium) - The Cambridge's Vikings put together one of the longest drives, of the state finals weekend, but were stopped on the Aquin 24 yard line on 4th & 12 as Nick Amodeo helped break up a Shane Lindberg pass to Adam Lord with 3:38 left in the game.

The game looked to be in hand if the Aquin offense could just ride the clock out.

After coming alive in the 3rd quarter scoring 16 points, once on a Matt Marini dive for 1 yard, tying the game at 22 & again a for 4 yard run tying the game back up at 28 all. Adam Jelinek would find Zach Modini on the 2 point conversion to put the Bulldogs up 30-28.

However on the very first play from scrimmage, the Bulldogs would fumble and Cambridge's Blake Spivey would recover on the 21 yard line, giving the Vikings new life.

Aquin would hold the Vikings on the next 4 downs, forcing a turnover on downs when Kyle Lehnard & Mike Beckman stopped Happach on a 2 yard run on 4th & 4.

With a 1:48 left to play Cambridge still had some hope with one timeout left, but after stopping the Bulldogs twice, Marini would find a hole and run 13 yards for a 1st down and the game.

Marini had been a thorn in the side of the Vikings all day his 131 yards & 3 TDs kept the defense playing a balanced game and unable to put to much pressure on QB Adam Jelinek, who was 15 of 24 for 227 yards passing with 1 TD & 1 Int. Drew Harweger would end up being Jelinek's favorite receiver with 8 receptions for 109 yards & a TD.

Defensively it was the same playmakers for the Bulldogs, Marini & Harweger both had 16 tackles.

Drew Harweger hauls in one of his 8 receptions during the Bulldogs 1A State Final victory. He had 109 yards of Adam Jelinek's 227 yards passing & the only passing TD of the game for teh Bulldogs.
