3A State Finals vs.Tolono (Unity)13-1
11/25/2005

Garrett Barnas runs down the sidelines for an 11 yards to score the Storm's final TD of their 3A State Football Championship.

Barnas Runs & Passes for Storm's Title

Champaign (Memorial Stadium) - Garrett Barnas, put up almost 300 yards in total offense as the Storm stayed undefeated and achieved their season's goal of completing unfinished business.

The Storm who lost in last years 3A Title Game to Driscoll Catholic, had set their minds on returning to the finals and picking up where they left off last year by winning a title.

The Storm jumped out early with a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Nathan Black had a 9 yard TD run 5 minutes into the game and Barnas had a 6 yard run with just 2:23 left in the first to give Bureau Valley the only points they'd need to take home a title in 3A.

The Storm defense did it part too, as they held Unity's all-star running back Henry Deters to just 76 yards. Deters who had rushed for over 2,800 yards so far this season, putting him 2nd on the state's single season yardage record.

Matt Morman & Nathan Black dished out most of the hits for the Storm D, as Morman lead the team with 15 tackles & black had 11. Morman also had a fumble recovery that came on Unity's first possession.

The Storm would take advantage of that takeaway and score again on a Barnas 6 yard run. Putting the Storm up 14-0 with 2;23 left in the 1st quarter, making them 2 for 2 when they had the ball.

The Rockets would take the kickoff and move the ball down field on an impressive 8 play 66 yard drive, that was fueled by a Dane Paul run of 35 yards that put them on the Storm 16 yard line.

Paul would stuff it in the endzone on a 1 yard run 20 seconds into the 2nd quarter, but that would be the last time any Unity player was allowed to score as Paul, who would end up being the Rocket's leading rusher would get 72 of his 96 yards in the 1st half.

Barnas who passed for 155 and was 8 of 12 with 2 interceptions, scored 3 of the Storms 5 TDs and did it all on the ground.

Black & Reid Nodine scored the other two Storm TDs. Black's TD was on the opening drive of the game & Nodine's TD came on their 4th possession, as Bureau Valley scored on 4 of their first 5 possessions.
