Week #6 vs. Princeton
Late Game Heroics Fall Into Devils Hands Princeton - "The weak of heart may not want to attend". In a game that used up every possible second of the clock, those with less than healthy heart rates were better off at home. Hall's Ryan Ferrari started off the game giving the Devils a kick return to the Tiger's 41 yard line and he ended it by picking off QB Shane Jones' pass in the endzone and returning it to about the 8 yard line as the game clock expired. The Devils started out looking a little sluggish and off key after Ferrari's kick return the Devils had two delay of game penalties called on them and called a time out on 4th & 4 during the same series. The Devils were also sacked twice, once by Erik Ellberg & Dennis Merkley. A dropped punt by Brad Foster to give Princeton the ball at the 24 of Hall would cap off the last of there uneasiness in the first. Hall would hold the Tigers as they would end up short on third down and then wide right on a field goal attempt. The second quarter wouldn't start out looking well for the Devils either. Quick and nimble QB Jones would dodge and then sprint down the field for a 79 yard TD. The Devils answered back with a mid field dash of their own from Jesse Derber to spot the ball at the one before Brad Foster would run it in for the TD. Hall went into the half up 12-7 on a Steve Coutts 1 yard rush which was made possible after a defensive stop that witness a Nick Slover sack, a Foster interception (his first of two). The third started with a Hall drive which lead to a Foster scamper for 5 yards into the endzone, with Brant Baltikauski following suit on the 2pt conversion. It was the fourth quarter however which was really the most nerve racking for the fans of both these NCIC Southwest teams. With 10:17 left to play in the game Jones would score again on a rush of 36 yards. The Devils were unable to make anything happen on offense and the ball would return to Princeton. With 7:01 still lest Foster would record his second pick of the night to give the Devils another chance to cushion their lead. Once again the Tigers would step up on defense and made a crucial stop at their own 19 on 4th & 1 for the Devils. With 4:51 the intensity of the game would rise dramatically as the Tigers pounded the ball down field behind the running of Cory Scott and Brent Yepsen. The Tigers had two fourth down situations but managed to make it threw them and into the Devil's red zone. With just under ten seconds remaining Jones would go to the west corner of the endzone for the third time in the last four plays and would be picked off by Ferrari. Vincent Johnson
