Spartans Offense To Much For Raider "D"
St. Joseph - Things were looking to stay on pace for the Raiders of Iroquois West Friday night They had shut out their previous tow opponents and after a quarter and a half they were leading St. Joes-Ogden 6-0. The Spartan offense had a different plan though.
Iroquois West had taken the lead with 9:93 remaining in what had started to look like a defense match up when Ryan Sjuts busted a huge kick return to place the deep in Raider territory. The drive would end up being capped off by a 3 yard Robby Brown run for a touchdown. SJO would get to within 4 yards of the goal on a 4th and long pass from Brandon Williams to Brown, but turn the ball over on downs with 45 seconds remaining. The Spartans would head to the locker room with a 7-6 lead and never look back after half-time.
The Spartans would score on a 20 yard pass to Sjuts for a TD with 6 and a half left in the third. The following kickoff would be fumbled by Drew Redenuis and recovered by Cody Mast. On the very next play the Raiders coach John Boma must have felt like he was watching an instant replay from the last TD reception as Williams would connect with Sjuts for another TD pass caught in the southwest corner of the endzone with 6:13 on the clock.
Iroquois West showed a little comeback spark with a minute forty left in the third on a half back pass from Nick Runyon to Mark Butzow for 27 yards TD strike. The 2 point conversion was no good. Mike Jannusch would score the final SJO touchdown at the 8:39 mark in the fourth, all but sealing the win for the Spartans.
Zach Gray for IW, Nick Osterbur and CJ Wilson for SJO all had big plays on defense.
