Knights Comeback & Win OT Thriller

Maple Park (Peterson Field) - In what may end up being one of the most exciting games this year in the state playoffs, Kaneland tied Sterling at 38 a piece to force overtime play in their quarterfinals match up Saturday.

After pulling ahead 30-17 over Sterling, the Knights watched in disbelief as what looked like a safe lead going into the 4th quarter quickly evaporated as the Golden Warriors put up 21 unanswered points to take a 38-30 lead over Kaneland with just 1:51 left in the game.

Mason Temiquel (RB 5'11 220 sr.) would pound the ball in twice for the Warriors in the 4th quarter. Both times from 3 yards out, putting Sterling up 38-30 with just under two minutes left in the game. The second TD came after Joe Schneiderbaur (RB/LB 5'11 190 sr.) intercepted a Kaneland pass, gving the Warriors good field position.

Michael Trobaugh (WR 6'2 180 sr.) made a 10 yard reception out of the backfield to put the Warriors ahead on the previous scoring drive with 4:27 left in the 4th quarter.

Kaneland's 4 receiver set have been know to be able to score quickly and with just under 2 minutes left to play in regulation the Knights would get down field behind the arm of QB Boone Thorgensen.

Crosby would do all of the final work as the Knights got into the redzone. First Crosby broke an 18 yard run to get the Knights to the 1 yard line, then after 3 failed attempts Crosby would go into the endzone on 4th and 1, making the score 38-36. Crosby again got the call and punched in the 2 point conversion as well, giving Crosby 26 points on the day, including 2 other rushing touchdowns & a 20 yard reception for all earlier in the game.

With the crowds from both sides of a pack field going nuts as the first overtime began, Sterling's Cory Renner (QB 6' 170 sr.) went to the air on 4th & 5 to find Schneiderbauer for the TD.

The Knights answered right back as Thorgensen ran in the Knights first play for a 10 yard TD.

Moving to the other side of the field and with Kaneland going first, once again on the first play for the Knights Thorgensen would hit Troy Jorgensen for a 10 yard TD reception. With the extra point good, Sterling would need to score 7 to send the game into a third over time, but the Knight's defense put the clamps down on 4th & 4 as a swarm of defenders stopped the Warriors and a swarm of Knights players & fans stampeded onto the field.

Kaneland head coach Joe Thorgensen, still looking caught up in the excitement of the victory hardly seemed upset about the blown lead and fact that the Knights had to go into 2 overtimes to win the game, "We let [Sterling] out of the bag. We gave them life. You just have to keep playing. ". Coach Thorgensen, would remark to his players about how amazed he was at the fact that they refuse to lose.
