Week #1 vs.Robinson (0-1)
8/29/2003

Rain Stops, Nappe Starts Up

Champaign (Memorial Stadium) - With a monsoon rolling across the middle of the state and lightning around Memorial Stadium, it looked like the only game to watch was EA Sports NCAA 2004 which would play with likeness of all teams & players before each of the games in Friday nights triple header.

Robinson might have liked to have taken the score from that game which was 7-0 late in the 4th, but after a short delay the real game would see a kickoff despite a steady down pour through the first half.

After that the game would be all Unity, playing in it's first game back at Memorial Field since it's runner-up finish in the 2000 3A state finals and they didn't disappoint.

The rain would put up it's own defensive wall until the half, holding the score to a 7-0 Unity lead at the break. But the rain let up after that unfortunately for Robinson, junior Chase Nappe (6'1 155) of Unity didn't.

Nappe, would let loose his own floodgates as he ran off 3 touchdowns. One of which was a speedy run of 49 yards down the sidelines. That score put the Rockets up 19-0 and helped seal the game.

Nappe credited his line with his outstanding day. Saying "I couldn't have done it without my linemen. My blocking was great today".

Head Coach Scott Hamilton, was pleased overall with his teams first outing, saying "We had a lot of inexperience coming into this game, but I think we'll find out our guys played really really well". In his post game speech to the team he said "Defensively I couldn't be more happy".

Robinson added on 7 with less than 2 minutes left on a 8 yard TD run by Nick Shaffer. Unity sophomore FB Henry Deters would also have a score on a option play in the 4th quarter.
