2A Playoffs 1st Round vs. Clifton
Tigers Survive Scare
Westville (Memorial Field) - Caleb Pratt (RB 6' 175 jr.) and the rest of the Tigers survived a scenario that all teams fear, losing in the first round as the number one seed.
While being down 7-0 early in the game might not have had the Tiger faithful worried, going into the 4th quarter down 14-7 to the 5-4 8th seed Comets had put more of a tamper on the crowd than the steady drizzle that was falling throughout the night.
With 9:18 left in the game, Pratt helped tie things up with a 34 yard run, that he finished off by leaping into the endzone with a Clifton defender on his back. With Jordan Barney's extra point, the Tigers could breath a little easier as things were all tied up.
Clifton would have went 3 and out on their next possession, but a penalty set them up with a fourth and 1 that John Meyer (QB 5'11 215 jr.) would convert as he went to a quick snap instead of a hard count and went untouched for about 4 yards.
Westville stopped the Comets again, this time regaining the ball with just under 6 minutes left. Pratt & Eli Williams (RB 5'10 165 sr.) would take turns running up the middle in what clearly would have been the 3 yards and a cloud of dust everytime had the field not been soaked, taking 5 minutes off the clock and getting the Tigers all the way to the Clifton 3 yard line, while twice converting on third down.
Jacob Attutis (QB 6'1 180 sr.) scored on what should have been a botched play with just 11 seconds remaining. Attutis lost the ball soon after the snap, but was able to pick it up, then run around the left side all the way to the other side line as he crossed the goal line untouched.
Clifton took a touch back on the ensuing kick off, leaving all 11 seconds on the clock, but Meyer's first play from scrimmage was picked off by Pratt and almost returned for a TD as the Tigers players & fans swarmed the field.
