Abingdon - The Elmwood/Brimfield Trojans continued their winning ways this week, defeating Prairieland Conference foe Abingdon by a score of 35 to 6.
In the second quarter the Commandos answered E/B's first score with a drive of their own, closing the gap to 7-6. The Trojans would scored twice more before intermission and early in the third to put the game out of reach 28-6. E/B scored once more early in the fourth quarter.
The Trojans controlled both sides of the ball, registering 405 yards of offense while only giving up 109. The Trojans' offense paced by hard running wingback Cody Black (105yds on 16 carries, 1td) and all-purpose back Nate McFadden (80yds on 11 carries, 2 receptions for 95 yards, 3td, 5 for 5 on PAT).
Defensively for the Trojans, end Ben Schmitt came up big early in the second half with an interception on an attempted screen pass by the Commandos. Defensive lineman Jessie Bedwell and linebacker Clayton Powers also came up big for the Trojans, who are now 2-0.
The Commandos Ry Colwell shouldered the majority of Abingdon's power running game, but was unable to break loose as he had done the previous week in the Commandos Week 1 victory overPeoria
Heights. He suffered an injury late in the game, the extent of which was unknown immediately after the game. The Commandos completed one pass (screen) and had another intercepted.
Defensively, despite superior size up front, Abingdon difficulty handling E/B's power running game, due largely to the focus they put on Trojans running back Nate McFadden. The Commandos fall to 1-1 for the season.
