Comets Coast to 2nd Round

Braidwood - The Reed-Custer Comets set themselves up for a meeting with 2005 3A Champs Bureau Valley (10-0) next week thanks to a strong showing by the Comets defense and quarterback Gavin Johnston (6'1 172 sr.).

Johnston had 3 rushing touchdowns and passed for 1 more as the Comets took a 35-0 lead through 3 quarters. Matt Pivonka (RB 5'7 175 sr.) had the games first score on an 8 yard run with 3:20 to play in the first. Pete Dell' Aquilla (WR 6'4 175 sr.) had the lone passing TD as he took a Johnston pass 38 yards to pay dirt in the 3rd.

Despite some solid rushing from James Nakashima (RB/LB 5'10 165 sr.), Dwight was unable to score until the fourth quarter when the Trojans were playing mostly against the 2nd team defense of the Comets.

John Birssa (DB 5'11 170 sr. & Brennen Webster (LB 6' 185 sr.) each had an interception for Reed-Custer and Wil Roff (DL 6'3 205 jr.) has two sacks, one of which was a safety.
