Week #2Geneseo(3-0)
Leafs Play Ball ControlGeneseo (Darnall High School) - While the Geneseo fans that packed the stadium Friday night sure didn't want to see a repeat of last season, the few Cahokia fans that did make the trip probably would have settle for a triple overtime loss, as opposed to the slow and painful loss they suffered by a ball hogging Geneseo offense. The Leafs worked on spreading out the defense early on in the game, mixing it up with passing & running plays, but as soon as the running back Shaun Russell crossed scored on a 1 yard run at the beginning of the second quarter, the leafs just pounded the ball up the middle, using as much of the clock as possible and keeping a young Comanches offense on the bench. The Cahokia offense, lead by freshman QB Darien Donald (5'10 155) with running backs Ronnie Thomas (5'9 165 sr.), Martavis Hines (5'9 175 jr.) & Exzaybion Jackson (5'8 165 so.), who's speed makes them all lethal from any where on the field, had a hard time getting into a rhythm and with Geneseo going on 4th down several times in the game Friday, the Comanches' chances for breaking the big play were few & far between. Jackson, put Cahokia on the board in the 2nd quarter with an amazing punt return TD, from just past midfield and Hines would add the last score, with 4 seconds left in the game with a 50 yard TD run. The Comanches could have tied the game up earlier in the third quarter and may have forced Geneseo to play a little less conservative. Thomas busted out on an 86 yard run down field, but was tripped up by a relentless Andrew Martens (DE 5'10 170 sr.) who stopped him at the 9 yard line. Geneseo stopped Cahokia on all 4 tries before regaining possession of the ball again and holding on to their lead. The game breaker for the Leafs was when the Leafs pulled off an onside kick after going ahead 19-6. With the Leafs recovering the ball and the Comanches speedsters not getting a chance to return it or run it on offense, another Geneseo drive would eat away at the clock. Kyle Glazier (QB 6'1 205 sr.) was the leading scorer for the Leafs, rushing for 2 TDs, with a 2 yard & a 10 yard run. Jeremy Peters (RB 6'2 185 jr.) would have the Leafs other rushing TD on the day. by Vincent Johnson
