Torrey Injured - Bulldogs Prevail

Carl Torrey, the fleet-footed Bulldog running back, was injured in the second quarter shortly after he dove into the end zone scoring on a nine yard slant. In the Bulldogs' last two games, Torrey carried the ball 19 times for 451 yards (23.7 yards per carry) and five touchdowns. It would be necessary for someone to step forward and take up some of the slack if CWCHS was to prevail.

Justin Kosikowski, a hard-nosed running back answered the call. He carried the ball seventeen times for a 148 yards (a career high) and scored on five and three yard touchdown runs, to lead the Bulldogs to a 34-18 triumph over Christopher - Ziegler - Royalton (CZR). (In a freshman game four seasons ago, "Koz" carried the ball 11 times for 240 yards and seven touchdowns.)

Although this game was never seriously in doubt, CZR gave CWCHS all they wanted. Quarterback Zach Thomas tossed a three yard touchdown pass to Nick Minor in the first quarter, but trailed 21-6 at half time. CZR scored again on a third quarter jaunt by Kyle Hammonds from 14 yards out and their final score came with a little over one minute left in the game when Kyle Hargis reached paydirt from three yards out. Larry Flowers rushed for 114 of CZR's 227 rushing yards while Thomas completed four of 10 passing attempts for 59 yards and one touchdown.

In the first quarter, CWCHS quarterback Chase Kittinger came out firing and found wide receiver Mark Healy open in the end zone for a 39 yard touchdown pass. Following Torrey's touchdown and Kosikowski two touchdown runs, the Bulldogs final score came on a quarterback sneak by Kittinger.Healy's TD pass reception was the 15th consecutive game in which Kittinger has completed a touchdown pass. The senior quarterback completed 10 of 18 passing attempts for 150 yards and one touchdown. He has now connected on a school record 40 career touchdown passes. Keegan Dennis caught five of Kittinger's aerials for 57 yards. Kosikowski, also lead the team in tackling and his two rushing touchdowns leaves him just one short of the school record of 25.

CWCHS now stands 7-0 while CZR dipped to 4-3.
