Clinton Falls to CAM in Opener

Moweaqua - The Clinton Maroons did not start to the season as they wanted. The Raiders from Assumption & Moweaqua proved to be the better team, Friday.

After a scoreless first quarter, Zach Tibbs opened the scoring with a 78 yard punt return touchdown. With 3:52 left in the second quarter, Gregory Zendel powered in the end zone for a 1 yard touchdown. Later in the second quarter, Tibbs ran for his second touchdown of the game after Keith England, Clinton’s Senior Quarterback, was intercepted. Central A&M led at the break 21-0.

Tibbs struck again early in the third with a 10 yard touchdown to put Moweaqua on top 28-0. Tanner Hall completed a 68 yard pass to Sloan for six points. Moweaqua completed the shutout by leveling the Maroons by a final score of 42-0. Zach Tibbs had 118 yards on 15 carries and four touchdowns. Sloan led the Raiders receiving core with 3 receptions for 159 yards and one touchdown.

This loss is a tough one for the Maroons, but it’s not catastrophic to the season. They will host Warrensburg-Latham next Friday in the home opener. With eight games remaining in the regular season the Maroons should still be optimistic.

Zach Tibbs and the Raiders will travel to Monticello and take aim at the Sages next Friday.
