Week #1 vs. Metamora

The Leaf's defense was ontop all night long, as they shut down Metamora's offense.

Shutdown & Shutout

Geneseo (Darnall Field)- After Metamora received a #1 ranking in the AP polls for 5A. A lot of prep fans where already talking about a Joliet Cath-less title run for the Redbirds. Of course as they say, "That's why they play the games" and because everyone is wearing a jersey.

And play they did. The Leafs and the Redbirds battle throughout the entire game. While both teams work hard on defense, The Leafs were able to move the ball on the ground better than Metamora. Josh Rowold broke some big plays to help his team pull off an upset victory, but none as big as the 4 yard TD run with 6:16 left in the game to give them a little insurance from a Redbird rally.

The Birds did try to rally on their very next possession, but were stopped for good when Andy Thurman intercepted a Jon Schlemmer pass.
