Week #7 vs. Grayslake (North) (0-7)

Rams Open Up in 2nd Half

The first chapter of a new rivalry in Grayslake was written in favor of the Rams.
Grayslake Central won the bragging rights in the first meeting by scoring 33 unanswered second half points securing a 33-10 victory over visiting Grayslake North in a FVC Fox division game on Friday night.
Extra efforts came of the Rams' John Corcoran who started the rally with a 41-yard touchdown reception, Brad Paust had a key interception, Alex Richardson rushed for 194 yards on 12 carries with a touchdown and Matt Young ran in two other scores.
However, it was the Knights (0-7, 0-3) who stole the show jumping out to a 10-0 halftime lead after the Rams turned the ball over a couple of times.
Grayslake coach Mike Munda needed to have his team play consistent football for a complete turnaround in the second half.
The Rams (2-6, 1-3) answered the call on a crucial third down play midway in the third quarter. Corcoran caught a pass in the secondary and raced to the end zone with 6:23 remaining for the first score.
"When I first heard it in the huddle, I was pretty excited about it," Corcoran said. "I knew if I ran at that pace the ball would be there for me. He (Evan Jones) hit me across the middle and they had no chance. I was just hoping that nobody wold catch me."
Grayslake Central's Brad Paust then intercepted a pass on North's next drive and returned it 27-yards back to the Knights 35-yard line.
Paust redeemed himself after making a mistake early in the game allowing the Knights' Robbie Nesbitt to score on a 65-yard touchdown pass.
"I Broke even tonight, I made one mistake and made up for one," Paust said. "I had a chance that I had to do.
"I think it helped the team. Everyone had to play consistantly in the second half and that's what we had to do."
Young (10 carries, 68 yards) put the Rams up for good 14-10, 5 plays later on a 6-yard scamper into the end zone with 3:34 left.
The Rams added three other scores in the final quarter, Evan Jones a 1-yard quarterback keeper, Young a 2-yard run and Richardson got into the end zone from 67 yards.
"I couldn't have done it without the offensive line," Richardson said. "I just saw the holes and ran through them. I'm excited to see this happen. It's leaving me speechless."
The Knights also got a 24-yard field goal from Cordell Castle with 2:40 left in the second quarter, which originally gave Grayslake North the first half lead until the page was turned to the Rams.
"Unfortunately, we didn't come out in the second half and they did," Grayslake North coach Steve Wood said. "Maybe, their halftime speech was better than mine.
"We talked every game about adversity whether being down by 14 or up by 14. Most of the time we're always on the back end of the portion. We knew we had a chance to play with them, but the score doesn't show it. We needed to punch one in and couldn't do it."
The Knights will be ready for next chapter.
"It's a nice rivalry in its infancy stage," Wood added. "We'll get them back next year. We've got everybody returning.
