Insult to Injury

Geneseo (Darnall Field)- The Leafs and the Redbirds came out swinging in this week one colossal match-up of Illinois prep powerhouses. Unfortunately for Metamora they were the victim of a TKO.

After keeping The Leaf out of the endzone for the first quarter, star running back Rick Alvis, had to leave the game and be taken to the hospital for X-rays on his wrist. The Redbirds, who were having a hard time advancing the ball while Alvis was in the game, would come across even bigger problems on offense. Ultimately leading to a shut out.

A couple of of pass interference calls help put Geneseo in the Metamora redzone. Shortly after Nick Eberhardt would hit an open David Mapes for a TD. The running of Josh Rowold & Kyle Sullivan would help eat up the clock as well as give the Maple Leafs a little insurance on the score board.

Metamora did hold a late rally with just under 6 minutes remaining, but a long Jon Schlemmer pass would be a Leaf reception and the preverbial nail in the coffin.
