Brackets & Scores
1A / 2A / 3A / 4A / 5A / 6A / 7A / 8A

2005 Title Game Date & Time; Nov. 25th 1pm

Last Years Champ; Sterling (Newman Central Catholic)(13-1) Runner-up; Carthage(13-1)

Favorites to win the title;Carthage(9-0),Maroa (M.-Forsyth)(9-0) & Dakota (9-0),
Other Title Threats;Casey (C.-Westfield)(9-0),Sidell (Jamaica) (8-1), &Sterling (Newman Central Catholic)(8-1)
The Dark Horses;Toledo (Cumberland)(7-2),Gibson City (G.C.-Melvin-Sibley) (7-2) & Forreston (5-4)

Favorites to win the title;
Carthage(9-0) - High school football fans in Illinois in the know, mention the name Carthage in the same breath asJoliet (Catholic),Addison (Driscoll)orChicago (Mt. Carmel). Teams all well traveled in the halls of state championship games. As usual the Blue Boys have one of the highest scoring offenses in the state, as well as one of the best defenses. Smashing teams by a 41 point average is just the beginning of what the Blue Boys have been doing with an offense that scores over 50 points a game. Making Carthage once again our favorites to take home the 2A Title.

Maroa (M.-Forsyth)(9-0) - Luke Hockaday (QB 6'2 175 jr) has helped breath life back into the Trojans football program. After Maroa showed up to the playoffs last year at 6-3, they helped prove that there's a reason you play the games, as they marched all the way to the semi-finals before losing toSterling (Newman Central Catholic)14-7. The Trojans are set to meet up with the Comets again this year as long as they're not the victims of an upset this time around. Standing in their way is a possible 2nd round match up withDecatur (St. Teresa) . A team they've beaten once this year, but also the team they upset in the first round in 2004. It would be sweet irony things were reversed this year, as the Trojans had lost the regular season match up to the Bulldogs in 2004.

Dakota (9-0) - While Dakota's offense isn't as flashy as Maroa's or Carthage, they're only scoring a dismal 39 points a game compared with to the 45 & 50 of the other two favorites. The Indians have been consistent pretty much the entire year on defense. Giving up 20 points once as they allowed just 82 points this year so far. What we really like about Dakota is that they're coming out of theNorthwest Upstate Illini (North)Conference, which has been represented in the finals game in both of the last two years. WithGalenain 2003 &Stockton2004. We think that the Indians will have a good shot at playing at U of I on Thanksgiving weekend.

Other Title Threats;
Casey (C.-Westfield)(9-0) -

Sidell (Jamaica) (8-1) -

Sterling (Newman Central Catholic)(8-1) -

The Dark Horses;
Toledo (Cumberland)(7-2) - 17 returning starters

Gibson City (G.C.-Melvin-Sibley) (7-2) - allowing just 6 points a game

Forreston (5-4) - lost 3 of the 4 games by a total of 6 points, has faced 6 playoff teams
