Win, Sets Up Shootout Next Week

Carmi-White County's 58-6 win over the Cairo Pilots coupled with Fairfield's 32-6 triumph over the
Sesser-Valier Red Devils leads to a BDC "shootout" this coming Friday.

Both teams are undefeated with 4-0 records and both are ranked in the Class 3A State polls (the Bulldogs 9th, the Mules 10th). The rivalry of these two schools is one of the oldest in the State of Illinois, beginning in 1899. Carmi-White County holds the edge with 54 victories against 37 losses and six ties in 97 games played. The two schools are just 32 miles apart and it has always been a friendly rivalry. Usually, something bizarre happens when these two schools get together, so it is best to be prepared for anything.

The game between Carmi-White County and Cairo was over quicker than one can drive the nearly 100 miles from Carmi to Cairo. The Bulldogs scored quickly and often and with 7:43 left in the 2nd quarter and Carmi-White County leading 43-0, the two teams agreed to operate under a continous clock for the remainder of the game. The Bulldogs scored early in the 3rd quarter on a 26 yard touchdown pass from Chase Kittinger to Lincoln Talley, then turneds the ball game over to the reserve team. The reserves managed a fourth quarter 43 yard touchdown pass from Matt Blankenberger to Erik Rice. Cody Tatom ran for the conversion. Cairo's only score came with 5:09 left in the 3rd quarter on an 81 yard sprint by QB Chavis Box.

The Bulldogs scored six first half touchdowns. Levi Sisco and Justin Kozikowski got into the end zone on one yard runs. Kosikowski and Carl Torrey grabbed touchdown passes from Kittinger and Torrey returned a punt 26 yards for a touchdown. Talley had his first of two touchdown passes from Kittinger and booted six of seven extra point attempts. Mark Healy sacked Chavis Box in the end zone for a Bulldog safety.

Carmi-White County managed 299 total yards including 12 of 14 passing attempts for 221 yards and five touchdowns. Kittinger completed 10 of 12 passes for 137 yards and four touchdowns. The Pilots
settled for 121 yards of total offense including 64 rushing and 57 passing yards
