Week #2 vs.Carmi (C.-White County)2-0
9/2/2005

Bulldogs Squeek By

Carterville - After winning their first game, Carmi-White County and Carterville squared off Friday night at what was predicted to be the championship game for the Black Diamond Conference.

The American News Service prep football poll ranked Carmi sixth and Carterville seventh and the Associated Press ranked the Lions tenth in the State in 3A. Since Carmi entered the BDC two years ago, the conference championship was determined by the outcome of the season opener between these two schools. The only difference this year is that it is the second game.

The game was everything it was supposed to be. Both teams scored in the first quarter, while neither team scored in the second quarter, although the Bulldogs advanced the ball to the 10 yard line three times, but were denied the end zone by the Lions.

Carmi put 15 unanswered points on the board in the third quarter only to have Carterville match it in the fourth quarter with back-to-back touchdowns within a 53 second time span that eventually sent the game into overtime to determine the outcome.

In the overtime, Carterville won the toss and chose to go on offense first and on the initial play, Nathan Wachter ran the ball in from 10 yards out, then kicked the extra point.

In the Bulldogs possession, Justin Kosikowski ran the ball for four yards, then gained an additional
yard before catching a five yard TD pass from Chase Kittinger. Bulldog coach Kurt Simon never
hesitated, as he chose to go for the two-point conversion and the victory or the loss. Kosikowski plunged for the conversion and victory

Carterville rushed for 204 yards and 61 passing. Tyler Harrell led the Lions with 97 yards rushing and
two touchdowns. For the Bulldogs, Kittinger completed 16 of 36 passes for 307 yards and three touchdowns, and Keegan Dennis caught five passes for 131 yards and a touchdown.
