Week #4 vs. Waterloo
Jerseyville (Snyder Sports Complex )- The Panthers took their first step in defending the Mississippi Valley championship by defeating conference rival Waterloo 28-6, in front of a packed Snyders Sports Complex in Jerseyville. The Panther's who dropped the first three games of the season, faced a must win situation. Jerseyville head coach Bill Breden has seen his team finally getting in the win column after coming so close.
Panther QB Caleb Williams capped off an impresive openning drive, as he scored on a 1 yard run and place kicker Zak Taake added the point after making it 7-0. Then Taake took matters into his own hands as he intercepted a Brandon Sherman pass and returned it 60 yards for another Panther score and a 14-0 lead. In the second half the Panther offensive line continued to their improving ways, as the Jerseyville running game controlled the third quarter.
QB Caleb Williams who ran with the ball 11 times for 47 yards made it 21-0 as he scored for the second time and a 21-0 lead. Jerseyville then put the game away as Mark Tully scored on a 2 yard run late in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs avoided the shutout in the games final minute when Eric Phillips scampared 40 yards making the final score 28-6.
Another standout game by the Panther defense
was overshadowed by the offensive line. QB Williams finally got some protection
and backs Ben Bishop, Chris Greeling and Trent Griffith were able to capalize.
Jerseyville's win improves their record to 1-3, but more importantly they
stand at 1-0 in the
