Week #2 vs.Decatur (St. Teresa)
(1-1)
Hockaday, Trojans Roll Past Bulldogs Decatur (St. Teresa HS) – Usually there aren’t many important early season games in Illinois High School Football, but tonight’s game was a different case. The Decatur St. Teresa Bulldogs came roaring into tonight’s game with three straight conference titles and a choke hold on the Okaw Valley. The Maroa-Forsyth Trojans, lead by All-Conference Quarterback Luke Hockaday and head coach Josh Jostes, were looking to take down the Bulldogs in a game that would probably decide the Okaw Valley Championship. Each team stumbled coming out of the gate, both going 3 and out on their first drive. Then with 6:52 left in the 1st quarter, Luke Hockaday completed a five yard pass to Blake Grunnet for a touchdown. Josh Norton followed that by busting the ball up the middle for the two point conversion to put Maroa up 8-0. Hockaday completed a whopping three more touchdown passes in the first half. The last one coming with 2:32 left in the second quarter. Hockaday hurled a bomb to Robert Kreps for an 80 yard touchdown. After Travis Tracer added the extra point, Maroa took a commanding 30-0 lead at halftime. However, Scott Davis had his crew back and ready in the second half. Sean Dunning broke a heard of tackles and then ran to daylight for a 34 yard touchdown run with 8:37 left in the third. Late in the third quarter, after a Dunning fumble, Hockaday threw a perfect pass to Reed Sullivan, who made a perfect read. Sullivan caught the ball, dodged several defenders and then tiptoed into the end-zone to put the Trojans on top 37-7 at the end of the third quarter. St. Teresa’s offense would come around in the fourth. But, it was too little too late. Two touchdown passes from Ryan Collins and a big 67 yard touchdown run from Dunning eased the pain only a bit. The Trojans stormed on to win 43-26. Hockaday ended up with 205 yards passing and 5 touchdowns. This win proves that this team from Maroa is for real. They will host their Route 51 rival, Clinton Maroons next Friday, while St. Teresa will look to rebound in Argenta against the Bombers. by: Matt Eshelman
