Cold Defense Shuts Out Lake Park On Hot Day
In a game that felt like it when on forever, it probably felt much longer for the visiting Lake Park players as they had to endure a 31-0 shut out and 90 degree mid afternoon heat. Dressed in black uniforms the offense of Maine South took the field and was hot in more ways than one. Maine South didn't score until there was 4 minutes left in the first quarter and went on a 24 point run to finish off the first half. With two touch down passes by Kane, one to Lupo and one more to Tony Trainer. A David Olson field goal gave the Hawks a 24-0 lead going into half time. Maine South defense picked off two passes in the second half to help maintain the shut out. Tony Trainer caught his second touch down with 4:58 reamining in the 4th to top off the score at 31. In a game where fatigue played a big role, Maine South's defense never let up and the Hawks walked away with a shut out and a 2-0 record, with both victories coming against highly regarded teams.
