Wind & Giannini, Knock Down Lane

Chicago (Lane Stadium) - Lane Tech's undefeated seasons ran into a wall on Saturday afternoon, but whether it was Mother Nature or Stevenson's Robert Giannini maybe hard to debate.

While Mother Nature didn't wear a Stevenson jersey on Saturday, she played an equal part in the Patriots win as did Giannini. Giannini, Stevenson's standout quarterback & defensive back, ran for 104 yards & a TD, while passing for 91 yards & intercepting 2 Matt Slusher passes. His second interception came with a minute fifteen remaining. Dashing any hopes the Indians had of a come back.

Stevenson steadily drove down field in the first to score on an 11 yard Giannini run with 8:13 on the clock. Lanes initial strength looked to be it's special teams. On the ensuing kickoff Mark Barnhart would ripped off a 95 yard return for a touchdown, but a wind blow PAT kick would go left of the goal post and become an ominous set up for Lanes kicking game.

Stevenson would kick a 27 yard field goal towards the end the first quarter & then put a boot on the ball on the kick off, putting it through the endzone. Lane would take over with the wind at it's back, but was unable to capitalize on that drive, as Giannini picked off a Slusher pass.

Lane was unable to drive effectively on Stevenson most of the day, but no time was more critical for the Indians than the third quarter. As into the wind punts failed to go deep into Patriot territory if they crossed the 50 yard line at all. A penalty on a punt would force the Indians to punt from inside their own 20. A perfectly time time out by Stevenson would ensure that Lane would have to punt into the wind to end the 3rd.

Both defenses would play tough all game and Lane would stop Stevenson from scoring as they took over in the fourth with great field posistion, but even with the wind at their back, the Stevenson D was to much and would hold Lane to 66 yards total offense for the game. Lane contain Stevenson running backs too. Allowing only 70 yards on top of Giannini's 104, 45 of which belonged to Brian Shust. Who would also add 54 on 3 receptions.

Stevenson's other touchdown came with 5:44 in the 3rd on a 4 yard drive up the middle by Shust. The PAT was blocked by Lincoln DePaula.
