Second Half Is All Bishop Mac
Kankakee (Memorial Field) - In a game that means a lot for the second half of the season, Bishop Mac made it happen in the second half of the game.
Kankakee (Bishop McNamara) started off the night looking like special teams might just cost them the game, but as things would have it special teams bought the game for the Fighting Irish. On the opening kick off the Irish failed to advance on a short kicked ball that would end up bouncing into the arms of a Marist defender. McNamara went to half time trailing by one 13-12, after first & second quarter point after kicks were missed. Luckily for the Irish's fans the special teams woes stopped there.
After the kick off recovery to start the game Chicago (Marist) drove deep into McNamara's red zone, but was stuffed for a loss on fourth and 1 at the 3. Marist would again get the ball back in the first and score with 1:39 remaining on a 26 yard TD pass from Mike Costello to John Horn, but would fail on the 2 pt attempt. McNamara also scored on a 36 yard pass from Jonathan Dole to Jarrod Nowman, to end the first 6-6.
Marist scored in the second on a 4 yard run by Tim McManigal with 3:14 left in the second.
Jarrod Nowman had a spectacular night on special teams. Most notable was a 70 yard return that took him about 150 yards to get. He twisted and spun enough times to make most gymnasts ill very possibly had a missed tackle from each Red Hawk defender.
Once the Irish got into their grove, they never faltered again, as the defense stopped Marist from scoring in the second half. The Irish passing game was on as Dole connected for two more TD's one each to Drew Laurenti & Jarrod Nowman, and once on a two point conversion. Dole scrambled from side line to side line on the other conversion before running it in himself.
McNamara pounded away at the clock through most of the second half using partially injured running back Mike Kimberlin. Of course Marist's defense may have been a little more bruised up after the 5'8" 175 lbs. smashed and bounced off Red Hawk players.
