Week #9 @ Kaneland
Dogs Are Suburban Prairie White Champs
Maple Park - Tim Brasic didn't have an easy time in the pocket Friday night, he was busy sharing time with some of the Kaneland defenders, who had been bringing the house all night long. Amist all this he still managed to help bring home the conference title to Riverside. The defense for both side played a key part in the outcome of this game, Kanelands blitzing rang up a lot of sacks for the Knights Justin Wolblers & created interceptions for both teams in the firs. As well as forcing a couple of punts & a fumble recovery by Adam Dolan, off a bad option play by the Knights. Brad Herbst, put R-B on the board first with 2:58 left in the 1st quarter he punched one in from 2 yards out. The Bulldogs scored the rest of their points in the 2nd. Brasic shot up the field for 13 yards on a QB keeper & connected with Adam Dermak on a 18 yard pass on 4th & 14 to give RB an insurance TD with 2:47 left in the half. Kaneland had score 3 minutes earlier on a 13 yard run by Ryan Schrader. The Bulldogs almost succeeded in strengthening their lead again in the second as the squib kicked the ball and recovered it when it bounced off the facemask of a Knights player. Kaneland stopped any chance of a pre-halftime scoring drive several plays later when a Brasic pass over the middle was tipped by a Knight & picked off by Brent Harner. The second half was all defense, Kaneland successfully stopped the offense of RB from scoring again & the Bulldogs held the Knights scoreless until the last 2 minutes of the game. QB David Issel would make a 30 yard pass to Shawn Fuller, from the 47 to the 18 & would get another 10 yard boost from a late hit call against Riverside Brookfield. Issel would then take the ball in the endzone himself from 2 yards out two plays later. With only a minute and 58 left and the score 18-13, Kaneland would go for the 2 point conversion and then an onside kick. The 2 pt. conv. was intercepted by Dolan and the onside kick would bounce right into the arms of a Bulldogs securing their win if the could just get one more first down. The Bulldogs ran the ball and the clock to get their first down. Once they did, the overflow crowd on the visitors side let out screams & cheers that were fitting of a state championship game, let alone a conference championship game. Both teams are now heading for the 4A IHSA playoffs. RB is 9-0 & the Suburban Prairie White Champs, Kaneland is 8-1.
