Week #3 vs. Oswego (HS)
9/7/07

Morris Rallys in the 4th Qrt.

Oswego - With 1:44 to go in the 4th quarter it appeared that the Oswego Panthers were the team that wanted to win the game more.

Things changed quickly however when Oswego coach Dave Keely decided to go for it on 4th and 7 at the Morris 20 yard line instead of kicking a 37 yard field goal with Oswego leading 19-16. A distance that was closer than the two previous field goals Panther kicker Otavio Fleury had hit from twice already (44, 38).

That 4th and 7 play fell incomplete and Morris took over at its own 20 yard line.

Three plays later Redskin quarterback Drew Hanson hit Adam Tondini at midfield and Tondini sprinted towards the sideline, got a good seal on the edge and took the ball 65 yards for the go ahead touchdown, his second of the game, the first being a 66 yard run in the first quarter. Trailing 23-19 and the crowd now silenced Oswego prepared for the winning touchdown.

However, Cam Quackenbush, the Oswego quarterback was intercepted near the Oswego 30 yard line and Kyle Windle returned it for a touchdown and nailed the coffin shut for a 30-19 Morris victory, their first of the season.
Tied at 10 at the half, Oswego appeared to have momentum on their side throughout the third quarter eating up nearly six minutes of clock on the half’s opening drive, but Quankenbush fumbled the center exchange, his second lost exchange of the game and gave the ball back to the Redskins.

Moments later, after Jon Gardner intercepted an under thrown ball by Hanson, Oswego’s do everything running back Tim Riley scampered in from 10 yards out, his second score of the game and putting Oswego up 16-10. Both Riley touchdowns were the result of him making big plays in the passing game. One for 28 yards and the other a beautifully thrown ball for a 44 yard gain to the Morris four yard line in the 2nd quarter.

Early in the fourth quarter Oswego was running the ball and eating up clock netting one of Fleury’s two field goals, but a good return by Morris and an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Oswego put Morris on the Oswego 43 yard line. Just one play after Morris running back Ryan Hicks converted a fourth and inches Stephen Wagner scored from 8 yards setting up the games final moments.

Oswego sophomores won the game and are now 3-0.
