Past Illinois H.S. College Starters & Playmakers

IHSFW.com has compiled a list of past college players from high schools across the state of Illinois. We hope to compile one of the most complete lists of Illinois high school players who have made their mark on the collegiate Grid Iron. Find out more about some of the most memorable players to come out of the Land of Lincoln

With close to 700 hundred schools who have or had a varsity football program across the state of Illinois & since the late 1800's, we're looking for any information on past college players. Beutjer, Jon /Wheaton (W. Warrenville South) 2000
Originally at Iowa, transferred to the University of Illinois in 2002. As of the start of the 2002 season he is the backup QB, behind Dustin Ward ofChampaign (Centennial). As of the 2000-2001 school year Beutjer is 8th on the national rank for most TD passes in a season (1998) & 1st for the state of Illinois.

Fitzgerald, Pat / Orland Park (Sandburg) 1993
Currently (2007) the youngest head coach in NCAA Division I football. Inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2007. A Linebacker for the Northwestern University in the mid-1990's, helped lead the team to the 1996 Rose Bowl. Named the Big Ten defensive player of the year twice, also won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and the Chuck Bednarik Award in 1995 and again in 1996, making him the first the first two-time winner of both honors. Fitzgerald signed as a free agent with the Dallas Cowboys after leaving Northwestern as a player, where he played in 3 preseason games.

Grigsby, Boomer /Canton2000
Played linebacker for Illinois State University. Led the nation in tackles in 2002 with 179.

Kittner, Kurt / Schaumburg 1998
Starting QB for University of Illinois. Was a Heisman Trophy candidate. Passed for a school record 70 TDs, & led the Illini to two Bowls and a Big 10 Title in 2001.

Kreitz, Brock /Aurora (Waubonsie Valley)1992
QB in HS, played for Mississippi & was a All SEC Linebacker there.

Pape, Tony /Darien (Hinsdale South)
6' 7", 305 lbs OT -U of Mich 5th yr senior named All Big 10 Conference 2002.

Randle El, Antwaan /Harvey (Thornton) 1998
Starting QB for Indiana University, then switched to wide receiver his senior year. Looking to make an appearance in the Heisman race. Became the first collegiate player to pass for 6,000 yards & rush for
3,000 and pass for 40 TDs & rush for 40 TDs.

Ruttiger, "Rudy" /Joliet (Catholic)
While not a college playmaker. Many e-mails have been sent suggesting we include Rudy. Rudy was a 5'6" 165 lbs defensive player for Notre Dame in college, but only played in 1 game. The Movie "Rudy" was about him and almost completely factual account of his quest to play football at Notre Dame.

Schultz, Todd / Morris 1992
Quarterback who played for Michigan State Univ. Starting at QB in 1996 & 1997.

Stewart, ED /Chicago (Mt. Carmel)1990
Defensive back & linebacker for Nebraska. Stewart was the captain of the 1995 National Championship team. Was also a finalist for the Butkus Award. Was the starting strong safety on the 1989 5A ChampionshipChicago (Mt. Carmel)team.
