Defense Key In Victory

Oak Lawn (Korhonen Field) - Richards' Tommie Thomas passed for 58 yards and 2 touchdowns, but it was the Bulldogs defense that won the game for the Gold & Black.

While the 6'2 QB Thomas may be getting some looks from college scouts it was the 5'7 165 pound defensive tackle Matt Alaiwi that ruled the game. Getting 9 tackles with 2 sacks and a tackle for a loss, including a big TFL on 4th & 5 in Richards' territory.

Several other Bulldog defenders were responsible for holding Oak Forest to around 100 yards of total offense, including Matt Lepper (OL/LB 6'2 210 sr.) & Anthony Palermo (DL 5'7 253 sr.) of Richards who both had sacks on Oak Forest QB Ron Czarnecki (QB 5'10 165 sr.) forcing him to finish in the negative for rushing.

With a only a 7-0 lead at the half, the game was shaping up to be a defensive battle to the end, but with only one first down in the half for the Bengals, Richards looked to have the edge. That edge paid off in the second when a combination of Oak Forest being forced to punt and the Bulldogs rushing game, powered by running back Lamar Harvey (5'7 170 sr.) and Thomas, set wide receivers Shaun Pratl (TE 6'7 212 jr.) & Ryan Windt (WR 6'4 195 sr.) to haul in two touchdown passes into the endzone.

Thomas' perfect pass to Pratl in the corner of the endzone resulted in a spectacular jump and a one foot drag by Pratl to put the Bulldogs up 21-0 with 10:32 left in the 4th would be the game sealer.

Harvey finished with 118 yards & 1 TD rushing for Richards, while Thomas had 70 yards on the ground and was 5-12 for 58 with 2 TD's.

Bobby Walsh led the Oak Forest offense with 85 yards on 14 carries. Czarnecki was 3-8 with 70 yards passing, all of which came late in the game.
