Favorites to win the title;
Naperville (North) - Coach Larry McKeon is no stranger to the state finals & taking a team through the DuPage Valley Conference undefeated is no easy task. The Huskies are a balanced team. They have a good offense & a good defense, they don't win with blow outs or shut outs, they just win.

Park Ridge (Maine South) - This team has been lead all season by junior QB Sean Price. They have been absolutely destroying teams on both sides of the ball. Which is why they have been out scoring opponents by an average of 31.9 points a game.

Chicago (Brother Rice)- The Crusaders are going to be one of the lead supporters of calling theChicago Catholic (Blue)the toughest conference in the state. Behind their defense which is second best in class 8A, they'll looking to claim the 8A title while the other schools in their conference, you might have heard of themChicago (Mt. Carmel),Chicago (St. Rita),New Lenox (Providence)&Wilmette (Loyola Academy), will be looking for gold in 7 & 6A.

Other Title Threats;
Hinsdale (Central) - Last years 8A semi finals wasn't expected to repeat it's performance as it all it's key players to graduation, but the Red Devils are back and will defiantly make some noise deep into the playoffs.

Barrington- Barrington was on a roll looking to go undefeated for the regular season, but their plans were spoiled by Palatine (Fremd). The Broncos may have gotten a wake up call with that loss.

Carol Stream (Glenbard North)- Defense, defense, defense. That's how you win game if you're the Panthers. While it's doubtful they'll be sneaking up on anyone this year like they did in 2000. It doesn't matter as much when you've already faced 5 playoff teams & still have only allowed an average of 5.8 points a game.

Lockport (Twp.) - They are the defending champs. And inspite of dropping a two games in a tough conference, they are still a team to watch out for. Although the Porters are 1-2 versus playoff teams.

Sleeper teams:
Palatine (Fremd) - The Vikings are 4-2 versus playoff teams. One of those victories came last week against top rankedBarrington. Fremd's first round match up against Roselle (Lake Park) will be one of the best games in week 10. A win there may put some more momentum their way.

Flossmoor (Homewood-F.) - At 6-3 Homewood is a true sleeper team. Best reason why they could shock the state. The Vikings lost by a touchdown to Naperville North & have beaten Lockport (Twp.).
