SPRINGFIELD - The SHG defense put forth its most impressive effort yet and the SHG offense scored on their first seven possessions of the first half en route to a 48-0 dismantling of the Lanphier Lions.
The Cyclones amassed 376 total yards and 48 points, all of which came in the first half of play. QB Eric Peterman rushed for 94 yards on 7 carries, while completing 7 of his 10 passes for 170 yards. The senior play caller accounted for 5 TDs, 3 of which were on the ground. RB George Minor added 58 yards on 9 carries.
The SHG defense, which came in allowing just 9.0 points per game, clamped down on the Lanphier attack. They limited the Lions to just 142 yards of total offense and forced three turnovers. Lanphier got into the red zone just once, that coming with under a minute to go in the game.
The leading rusher for the Lions was QB Emerson Weed, who rushed for 28 yards on 7 carries. He also completed just 4 of his 17 pass attempts for 75 yards. Cyclone DB Sean Tapocik intercepted one of those attempts for a touchdown in the first quarter.
SHG (6-0), ranked 16th nationally by The Sporting News, will host CS8 rival Chatham Glenwood (6-0) on Friday.
