2004 6A State Finals vs.New Lenox (Providence)(13-1)
11/27/2004

Bret Holtz, scrambles through an opening in the line. Something he didn't see a lot of as the Celtics shut out the Raiders 40-0 in the 2004 6A Finals.

The Whole 9 (Titles)

Champaign (Memorial Stadium) - Providence Catholic came out running in their 11th state finals game, busting out on a kick return to take a 7-0 lead on their way to their 9th state championship.

Providence, who has been a staple in the State Finals over the last decade. Has been in all but 2 of the finals since 1994.

Jordan Farrell blazed down the field on the opening kickoff for the Celtics for a 97 yard TD. Giving the Celtics a the only lead they need 12 seconds into the game, and the Celtics never looked back.

Early on Bloomington still had plenty of time to get on top. While failing to get any serious yardage on their first drive, the Raiders would get the ball back twice due to good defensive plays. Once after stopping Providence on 4th down on the Raider 33 & then getting the ball on a fumble recovery on the Celtic 32.

A punt & a missed field goal would be the out come on both drives in what would soon come to be seen as the last serious chances Bloomington would have to turn the game around. The Celtics would go on a streak, scoring on all 5 of their next possessions. Proving to be all but unstoppable on their way to a 40-0 win.

Holding Bloomington's offense to 46 yards & 2 first downs. The vaunted Celtics D was keeping true to it's season's form going into the locker room up 23-0.

Things didn't change much in the second half as the Celtic defense put up some incredible numbers for the game. Holding Bloomington to 5 first down & a total of 92 yards of total offense.

Leading the charge on defense was Pat Lenahan & Matt Mazurowski, both finishing the game with 5 tackles.

The Purple Raiders's defense that gave up just 83 points all season long, may have gotten away with out looking like they got over powered by the Celtics offense, since much of the points were coming from the Celtics capitalizing on the outstanding play of the Providence special teams.

With a kick return TD, a blocked punted and a favorable wind that sent that ball out of the back of the endzone on several Providence kickoffs.

Added to Bloomington's misery was slippery condition causing mor ethan it's share of Bloomington fumbles. Giving many Raider fans flashbacks of last years title game where Bloomington turned the ball over several times on fumbles.

Bobby Casey's 27 yard field goal would put Providence up 10-0 and would start a Celtic scoring run that would all but seal the victory. QB Casey Colbert's 1 yard TD dive after the blocked punt, would be followed by a Farrell TD run of 14 yards.

Parker Cleveland would get in on the scoring as the senior & game leading rusher, busted out a 12 yard run to start off the second half for the Celtics. Another run by Colbert almost a minute later in the game would end the scoring run that included 5 possessions for 5 scores.

Bloomington got down to the 17 of Providence late in the third, but failed to convert on downs instead of opting for a field goal while being down by 37.

Casey's field goal with 1:52 left would start a running clock after Providence ate up most of the 4th quarter on their last drive of the game.
