Ironmen Come Through in 3rd

The number one ranked Normal Ironmen (6A) combined with the number five ranked Bloomington Purple Raiders (6A) to set a new record for total points scored during the Intercity Doubleheader Friday night by defeating the Purple Raiders 47-35.

Bloomington scored first with a 27 yard TD run by Darrelynn Dunn early in the first quarter.  Normal's Chad Hinshaw responded by running back the resultant kick-off to tie the score at 7 apiece.  Two more touchdowns by Normal's Dan Moore made the score 21-7, late in the second quarter.  Bloomington fullback Marquis Johnson scored a touchdown with seconds remaining in the second quarter to bring Bloomington within 7 as the first half ended.

The third quarter saw a two team total of 34 points scored.  Normal touchdowns by Joey Anderson (2), and Alex Buck (1) accounted for 20 third quarter points for the Ironmen.  Bloomington touchdowns were scored by Eric Furler's one handed catch in the endzone and a 34 yard run by QB Levi Johnson.  The score at the end of three periods was Normal 41, Bloomington 28.

The final period saw penalties and fumbles by both teams.  Alex Buck from Normal scored on a 19 yard run around the left end to give Normal a 47-28 lead.  Bloomington's Tyler Sipes had a 10 yard catch and 65 yard run up the right sideline for Bloomington's final touchdown of the evening.
