2nd Round 8A Playoffs vs.Palos
Hills (Stagg)(9-2)
Gibson, Interceptions Hurt Chargers Any one standing on the side lines Friday night would have heard the words "punt team" use quite a bit, as the Chargers & Crusaders collided into one another all night long. The game didn't start out as a slug match, it look as if things could possibly developed into a shoot out as Joe Gibson busted loose for an 86 yard opening kickoff return for a TD. A missed kick would give the Crusaders a 6-0 lead with just 16 seconds expired from the game clock. Rice would do all their scoring in the first half as Gibson would score on a 3 yard run, where he dove over a blocked defender to land into the endzone. That TD was set up on an earlier play, a 30 yard reception by Paul Gannon. Austin McDonough would score a TD on a interception off Stagg's QB Pat Poskus. It was one of three Poskus threw on the night. Pat Walsh & Gibson would each get a interception as well. Gibson interception being a key moment late in the game. With 3:34 left in the game an Brother Rice clinging to a 19-6 lead, Gibson pick would allow Rice to run out the clock, as he would get a yard on a 4th & inches run on Rice's possession. D.J. Matysek, scored Stagg's lone goal as time expired in the 3rd quarter. It was a 2 yard run that was set up two plays earlier by a 47 yard run he had, before being tripped up at the last second. Dan Kaech & Joe Plewa, both had interceptions for Stagg as well.
