Jordan Farrell tries to shake a Mt. Carmel defender for a few extra yards, late in the Celtics 46-27 loss.

Celtics Struggle After Down 27 to 3

Chicago (Gately Stadium) - On the opening drive of the very first game ofChicago Catholic (Blue)Conference play for both Mt. Carmel and Providence, things were looking to be going the Celtics way, as they drove down field after the kick off and put 3 on the board with what looked like little or no effort at all.

Of course, anyone who has seen these two teams clash before knows that things are never that simple & the game is never over until the clock stops. And it was probably that reason, that while Mt. Carmel would rattle off 27 unanswered points, that neither the Providence sideline felt that the game was over nor did the Caravan sideline relax.

Jordan Farrell (RB 5'11 192 sr.) would bring things back in perspective for the Celtics in the 2nd quarter and bring the game to within 10 points before the half with a 3 yard TD run & a 29 yard TD reception. Helping pump up the Celtics and start them off down only 27-17 instead of 27-3.

As the third quarter got underway, Providence capitalized on a Caravan fumble, only to have to settle for a field goal, but that would put them with in a touchdown of tying the game up.

Larry Dortch (RB 5'11 210 sr.) would give the Caravan some breathing room as he ended a Mt. Carmel drive with a 1 yard TD plunge into the endzone, but Providence's Brian Stroud, who took over as QB midway through the 2nd quarter, would find Mike Maher (WR 5'10 175 jr.) and he would go 50 yards for a Celtics score. Bringing the game back to within a touchdown, just one minute after the Caravan had pulled away again.

After a muffed punt by the Celtics, that Mt. Carmel recovered, Dominic Sulo (RB 5'11 182 sr.) would bust loose for his third TD of the game and all but put the nails in the coffin. Sulo's 46 yard run would put them up 40-27 with no time left in the 3rd quarter.

Sulo's 40 yard run with just 6:29 left in the game would be his fourth and the Caravan's last of the night. This added on to Sulo's two other scores in the first half, from runs of 2 yards & 73 yards. Sulo, who had 148 yards at the half would end up with 298 yards on 28 carries. The Celtics total offense was 291 yards.

Carter Kopach would score on a 1 yard run, the Caravan's first score of the night, and would find James Jefferies (WR/DB 5'11 170 sr.) for a 57 yard TD pass. Jefferies finished the night with an interception as well, along with Brian Mulchrone who also has a pick for the Caravan.

Farrell, was the Celtics leading rusher with 55 yards, while Eric Johnson & Stroud almost evenly split the passing yards for Providence.
